Court Baron Coronet

This month I was honored to create a Court Baron coronet for my long time friend, now His Excellency, Rhiannon Elandris of Glyndyfrdwy. This was a special treat for me because to me Rhiannon has always been a perfect example of what the SCA is all about. I always enjoy the creative process of my work, but it is nice to create a piece that not only gives me a creative outlet but is heartfelt. I think it adds to the process. The coronet was handed out with success at Harvest Raid 2016.

The coronet is tooled and painted leather. The black is leather dye and all the colors are painted. The front shows Rhiannon's device and the Golden Lances are a nod to the Order of the Golden Lance, an award of high merit (of which Rhiannon is a member) for equestrian prowess.

I used a different method for mounting the pearls that involved drilling holes in the leather and mounting the pearls on posts. This improved on my last attempt where I simply mounted the posts to the back of the coronet and applied a leather backing. As seen here: First coronet attempt...
