FAQ

Frequently asked questions:

Do you take Commissions? Yes but with a few conditions. First I do not take payment for commissions. If people want to provide hardware (belt buckles, etc.) that is fine but I won’t work for profit. I will take leather for projects but only if the leather will actually work for the project. Leather that is too thin, old, or in bad condition won’t get used. Second I strive to complete projects in a timely fashion but I will move commission work around on my to-do list based on what needs to get done first even if it is a new project bumping an old one. This means projects will get bumped around and delayed. This is why I won’t work for money.

My non-conflict policy: Since I do not work for profit I also avoid taking on projects that another craft-person is offering for money/profit. I don't want my lack of interest in money to result in a loss for a hardworking craft-person who is trying to earn a living or support their business. If you don't know where to find a craft-person for your project I can help you.

Repairs: I will do repairs on things but it is not my primary objective. Also if a repair is beyond my ability or the item is beyond repair I will say so. If people need things repaired I would rather teach them how to repair the item (if it can be repaired) than simply repair it. This way next time they won’t need my help.

Are there any projects you won’t work on? I don’t really work on leather clothing or shoes. I might get into shoes down the road if time allows but I don’t see myself getting into clothing. Other than that I would rather work on projects that will increase my skill set over routine projects. If I don’t have the tools or know-how for a certain project I am willing to experiment and learn with the understanding it might take several failed attempts to get a product I am happy with.

Do you only work on medieval projects? I work on all sorts of projects but at this point I am trying to focus on medieval/SCA items. I do work on non-historical items as long as it is something that peaks my interest and advanced my skills. I tend to actively avoid working on "modern" projects because they are not my main focus and they almost always violate my non-conflict policy.

Do you teach? Absolutely! I am not an expert but if my limited knowledge will help you I am willing to teach it to you.

Feel free to contact me if you like if you have other questions. I really like Facebook for its convenience (Lance Magnus Kazmark if you want to find me there) but e-mail works as well.
